The appendixes of this test method are listed as non-mandatory information.  This implies that the maintenance and calibration/equipment verification procedures are not required.  These procedures (especially the LVDT verification) seem to be critical in obtaining reliable test results.  I recommend removing the statement that the Appendix is non-mandatory information.  Alternatively, I recommend removing this information from the Appendix altogether and putting the maintenance and calibration/equipment verification sections into the regular body of the standard.
